Homebrewing Photos part 2

Let’s see how many pictures we can shove in here.     

Boiling the wort. Boiling sterilizes the wort and extracts bitterness from the hops.

 

Cooling the wort. DH brews at R's place because R has a pool. This makes cooling more efficient and wastes less water.

 

The wort (pronounced wert). This is beer before fermentation creates alcohol.

 

Weihenstephan yeast. Adding this yeast ferments beer by breaking down sugar into alcohols, esters, phenols and carbon dioxide. Esters add a clovey, herbal quality to beer while phenols add that fruity, banana-like taste.
